Historical Sites & Landmarks

Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness is the largest single expanse of land above 10,000 feet in the United States. Natives hunted in this wilderness for thousands of years, and now people can visit, photograph, and explore this sacred land.

Emigrant Gulch is a marker in Emigrant, Montana, that tells the story of the first miners to settle in the area. The settlement consisted of 50 log cabins and men who worked tirelessly every day.

Due to hostile Natives and dwindling gold, most people drifted away from the site in 1866.

Museums

Shining Mountain Gallery displays artwork from various artists, including Gary Holland, who paints acrylics of Native Americans, western life, and wildlife. Also on display are Native American tools, weapons, pottery, and furniture.

Nightlife

Emigrant Outpost is the local Pray watering hole. Check out this bar and restaurant after a long day of adventures. The restaurant features daily specials like sub sandwiches and soup. Grab a drink at the bar and play some pool or a casino game.

Grab a slice of pizza and a cold beer at River’s Edge Bar. It’s a cozy spot to hang with friends and play pool or catch a game on TV.

The Old Saloon is a slice of history in this small town. Erected in 1902, the saloon has served guests for over 100 years and counting. Eat delicious food, drink cold beverages, and listen to live music during the summer.

Camping

Daily Lake is the perfect campsite for those interested in spending their time fishing and boating on the crystal clear lake. This campground has 35 sites, restrooms, and drinking water.

Loch Leven is accessible by driving, walking, backcountry hiking, and boating. The site has excellent phone and WiFi connections and is the perfect home base for exploring the area. Your tent is next to the river where you can spend hours flyfishing.

Mallards Rest Campground is great for tent and RV camping. This dog-friendly site has excellent phone reception, picnic tables, fire pits, and restrooms. You can also bring alcohol.

Livingston/ Paradise Valley KOA is an award-winning campground that provides rental cabins or deluxe RV patio sites next to the lake. Enjoy a homecooked breakfast and many amenities for your family trip.

Pine Creek Campground is a hidden gem in Pine Creek Falls where you can pitch tents under the stars. The grounds provide a picnic area, restrooms, and fire pits. During the day, you can hike the trails or fish off the dock.

Hiking

Passage Falls is a secluded 5-mile hike that takes around 2-hours to complete. This moderately challenging hike has steep areas that can get muddy, so be careful. At the end of the trail, you will find a gorgeous waterfall!

If you are looking for a challenging hike, try the Emigrant Peak Trail. The trail is 7.5-miles and takes approximately 5.5-hours (bring plenty of water). This hike is at a steep incline, and you may need boots with spikes and poles. Also, carry bear spray.

Dry Creek Trailhead is an almost 7-mile hike (6 to 7 hours). The trail is well-defined and maintained with a moderate difficulty level.

Pine Creek Falls is another popular, moderate hike that takes around an hour to complete. The trail is dog-friendly, but it must be leashed.

Fishing

Armstrong Spring Creek is world-famous and one of the most sought-after creeks for flyfishing. This classic trout stream features 1.5-miles of consistently cold temperatures, perfect for a healthy trout population.

Hunting

Rising Son Outfitters is a game-rich private ranch at the base of the Absaroka Mountains. You can trophy hunt from the ranch or two wilderness base camps. Enjoy hunting access either day or night during the spring and fall.
