While Havre, Montana has been nicknamed the crown jewel of the Hi-Line Railroad, its sparkle and luster comes from a tight-knit community of adventurers and small town eccentrics.

Tucked in north-central Big Sky Country about 45 miles from the Canadian Border, Havre offers hiking trails, nearby nature preserves, and snowy mountains, as well as a refreshing reservoir to swim in each summer.

But all of that activity calls for an invigorating pick-me-up! Some may enjoy a cold beer after a long day of snowboarding or hiking the Bill Baltrush Nature Trail – and it’s true that Havre does offer multiple breweries and a distillery.

But when you really need a caffeine zing, Havre’s locally-owned coffee shops and lunch watering holes provide sustenance and joy to dedicated patrons and travelers.

Whether you’re just passing through or in town to explore Havre Beneath the Streets, this list of best coffee shops in Havre will have you coming back for more. Alright, grab your nearest mug, and let’s get our buzz on!

Mmm, it’s all in the name: locally roasted coffee beans. This shop prides itself on freshly sourced beans, specialty drinks, and fast, friendly service that doesn’t compromise on quality.

Whether you like your drinks iced or hot, it’s easy to understand why locals absolutely love to catch sun rays in 406 Roasting Company’s outside seating area.

Some drink favorites include their powerful, classic Americano, richly spiced chai latte, an all-natural Lotus energy drink, and a frothy Breve.

Offering acai bowls, frozen yogurt, breakfast sandwiches, and daily lunch options, this cute little shop has a drive-thru and indoor seating area if you don’t want to leave on an empty stomach.

Also a huge hit? The daily-made blueberry muffins, the cookies, the coffee cake, the… Okay, so we’ve got a sweet tooth. But hey, that’s why we’re here!

Good news if you’re lactose-intolerant: 406 Roasting Company offers high-quality soy, almond, and coconut milk to keep your coffee or tea smooth and creamy.

But don’t forget about your furry friends! Be sure to ask for a Pup Latte – it may not be on the menu, but it’s a 406 favorite that’ll leave your dog wagging for more.

You’ll Love It Here If: you’re on the go, walking in with three kids, just finished dropping said three kids off at school, or looking for a lunch spot with caffeine strong enough to motivate the rest of your day. Onwards!

2. Coffee Hound

Here’s a glowing testimonial for you: even the coffee snobs love this place! Sitting at about 95% drive-thru with a small indoor seating area, the Coffee Hound is certainly a blink-and-you-may-miss-it kind of spot.

But once you find it, you’ll easily appreciate the friendly service, warm Montana hospitality, and powerful, rev-me-up drinks (Get there bright and early to beat the drive-thru lines!).

Where does this spot differ from other local options? Variety.

The fresh gourmet coffee is addictively good – and be sure to ask about the Latte of the Day – but they also offer rejuvenating tea with boba pearls, fresh smoothies, bubbly Italian sodas, unusual flavors, baked goods, and a diverse selection of specialty drinks based on the season.

Another unexpected wow factor? Their breakfast bagel sandwiches. Listen, we won’t judge if you (also) end up here multiple times a week, or if you walk out with a bulk bag of gourmet coffee… Happens to the best of us.

You’ll Love It Here If: time is of the essence, you’re craving a vibrant tea or coffee with gourmet syrup, or your energy levels are lower than low. Also, boba. Always boba.
