Havre is believed to have been named after Le Havre, France, where the original homesteaders were from. Prior to the extension of the Great Northern Railway, Havre was located 5 miles to the southwest, near Fort Assiniboine.

  • Alcohol can only be served to patrons 21 years and older in Havre, even if they’re accompanied by a parent or guardian, and trying to buy alcohol with a fake I.D. is a criminal offense. While it is legal for parents or guardians to provide liquor to those under 21 in Montana, this can only happen in a private residence and not in a bar.
  • In Havre, it is illegal for bars to sell alcohol to patrons between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Breweries can start serving samples from 10 a.m.
  • The local law also prohibits driving while intoxicated. The maximum legal limit of blood alcohol concentration is 0.02% for divers under 21, 0.04% for commercial drivers, and 0.08% for all other drivers.
  • Montana law also prohibits boating while intoxicated. Penalties for driving under the influence include hefty fines, driver’s license suspension, and imprisonment, with penalties becoming harsher for each subsequent DUI.

All of the beers are brewed in Havre and served in the brewery’s cozy taproom. The brewery was founded by brewmaster Michael Garrity in 2013, who was inspired by the Kettle House Brewing Company in Missoula.

Among the most popular beers that Triple Dog has on tap are Aberdeen Scotch Ale, Coffee Stout, Fresno Wheat, and Bears Paw Belgian Wit.

The Triple Dog Brewing Company is open Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, it is open between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
